Genoa, Nev. — A Kingsbury vacation homeowner is appealing a $2,500 fine for renting to people under the age of 25. The renters said they were 25, but the owner admitted not asking for ID. The Vacation Home Rental Advisory Committee meets 1 p.m. today at the Tahoe Douglas Fire Station located at 193 Elks Point Road.

The committee will also review its ordinance. There’s a lot of cool data in that packet, including that the county is losing 2.5 net permits a month. There are around 550 permits now, according to VHR Manager Dr. Ernie Strehlow.

While most of the state’s gaming revenues were down, of course Lake Tahoe was up, both at Stateline and North Shore. The Stateline casinos pulled in $31 million up from the average of $30.8 million. North Shore was up to $3.6 million up 14 percent from July 2023.

Douglas County commissioner candidate Jason Garrett Gibson appeared in Tahoe Township Justice Court on Tuesday where his attorney said he considers himself a political prisoner. He will remain so until Sept. 10, unless that date moves up because he’s been brought to “competency.”

Nothing like a couple of cool days to make it feel hotter outside. The long range forecast is all sunny skies and highs around 90 degrees, which pretty much it today’s as well. A light breeze out of the northwest will pick up this afternoon.
