Mariachi rang through the multipurpose room at Jacks Valley Elementary School on Nov. 21 as the school celebrated its English Language Learners.
With Hispanic and Latino students making up at least a third of the population at Jacks Valley, the school feels it’s important to celebrate the differences that make up the student body.
“It was a lively evening hosted to honor and celebrate the diversity that our multicultural and multilingual families bring to our school,” said Jacks Valley English Language Learner Specialist Rebecca Linford. “Mostly, it is about building a sense of community and hospitality for our ELL students and their families.”
Families enjoyed a cultural potluck, Loteria games, design challenges, a pinata, and live music from the school choir and 5th grade student Natalie Ramirez Gomez’s Mariachi solos.
“The laughter and smiles on people’s faces reminded us of the great investment we make when we invest our hearts and time into the kids and families of our community,” said Linford.
