Genoa, Nev. — Tuesday would have been Fallon Montanucci’s 25th birthday and a small gathering was conducted at noon to dedicate a memorial constructed in her honor off Highway 395 near where she was killed by a wrong-way drunk driver in 2022.

Both Eastside Memorial Park in Minden and Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville are participating in Wreaths Across America 9 a.m. Dec. 14. Minden Town Board members are being asked to repeat last year’s $500 donation for the cause.

Gardnerville Town Board members approved a 35-percent trash rate increase on Tuesday night after hearing public comment from two residents in opposition.

Genoans are asking that the town be included in the speeding enforcement covered under a Joining Forces Grant the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office participated in receiving. Town Board members will discuss submitting a formal request at the 5:30 p.m. meeting in the Genoa Town Hall.

The Minden Town Board is keeping it light tonight with the election of officers and staff reports. It will be Matt Bernard’s last meeting with Mimi Moss taking the seat he was keeping warm for her. Minden meets 5:30 p.m. at the CVIC Hall.

I’m seeing a water flow alarm every couple of days on Pulse Point, which this time of year means a fire, a malfunction or the pipes have burst, and it’s often the pipes.

What I don’t see is freezing fog in Carson Valley, despite an advisory. Douglas County is on the far southern tip of the region covered by the advisory, so it’s entirely possible that there is some fog somewhere between Topaz Lake and the Oregon state line or out in the desert.

The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature approaching 55 degrees today. It’s supposed to get even warmer on Thursday, which should see good fireworks weather.
