Genoa, Nev. — Before tonight’s fireworks show in Gardnerville I anticipate there will be some figurative fireworks at today’s Douglas County commissioners meeting. Between two 5G appeals, the Ranchos project and I’m hearing that Johnson Lane residents may be preparing to oppose banning truck traffic on side streets.
Gardnerville’s 19th annual Christmas Kickoff starts at 5 p.m. in Heritage Park with the arrival of Santa, live demonstrations by CBP Aerial Arts and Controlled Burn, and then the lighting of the Pavilion and then the fireworks.
Saturday’s two sittings of Breakfast with Santa are full, Genoa Town Manager Jody Brunz said on Wednesday. Genoans also approved a resolution seeking more traffic enforcement south of town.

Someone made off with the Salvation Army kettle at the Topsy Walmart around 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to the organization. The Carson High JROTC student who was bell ringing left it unattended for a minute and it was gone. There’s likely video.
The former Gardnerville laundry has maybe a few months left before it’s torn down under a grant, according to Town Manager Erik Nilssen. It has been five years since it was hit by a minivan in March 2019.
The forecast for tonight’s Christmas Kickoff in Gardnerville is for calm winds and clear skies, with a temperature of 40 degrees around when the fireworks go off. We’re looking at a repeat of Wednesday’s forecast with a high temperature of 55 degrees, no wind and sunny.
