An April 22, 2025, trial date is scheduled in U.S. District Court in the murders of three people related to an illicit marijuana deal.
Cory Spurlock, 36, has been in custody since he was first identified in connection with the Nov. 7, 2020, double murder of Burbank, Calif., couple William and Yesenia Larsen.
The couple were found dead two days later by the side of Highway 395 by a snowplow driver after having been left there.
The third victim was 26-year-old Redding Calif., resident, Jered Stefansky, who was reported missing five months earlier. Stefansky was last seen on June 19, 2020, when he drove to Mound House to pick up $400,000 from Larsen to purchase marijuana, according to his mother.
On March 16, 2021, Stefansky’s remains were found in a shallow grave at a remote area near Rye Patch Reservoir in Pershing County.
Spurlock, his wife Orit Oged and a man named Bradley Kohorst were arrested in the Larsen murders by Mono County authorities in March 2021.
The case was transferred to federal jurisdiction after a May 2023 indictment.
That indictment was amended on Sept. 12, to include eight counts, including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana, murder while engaged in narcotics trafficking relating to the killing of Stefansky, murder for hire relating to the killing of William Larsen, tampering with a witness by killing William Larsen and stalking resulting in death relating to Yesenia Larsen, interference with commerce by robbery and causing death through the use of a firearm during and in relationship to a crime of violence.
Oged entered guilty pleas to stalking resulting in death for the Larsens. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, there is no filing for Kohorst.
Spurlock’s trial has been delayed several times over the past year.
