Club treasurer admits embezzlement

The former treasurer of the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club admitted to embezzling club funds on Monday.

Eric Oliver Jacobs, 26, was arrested July 26 after it was discovered that he was using his access to the club’s bank account for his own purposes. 

He was initially accused of embezzling $40,000 from the club’s account.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2025.

• A man with an extensive criminal history was granted diversion on a DUI charge Tuesday.

John Eric Foster was arrested May 2 on his third DUI offense in the last seven years.

“DUI drivers are killers in waiting,” said Douglas County District Court Judge Tod Young.

Although Foster has a criminal history, prosecutor Bill Murphy said he’d rather see Foster take advantage of the DUI program, then see him return to court over and over again.

“He does have a history, there’s no doubt that he has that, but he wants to change, and it would be more beneficial for him if he succeeds, then to come back over and over and I want to see that end.”

Foster is to report for DUI Court beginning Dec. 16.

• A 19-year-old man, who was joy riding on a quad when he led deputies on a chase, faces six years in prison after pleading guilty on Tuesday.

Trevor Jon Burrier was arrested July 20 after failing to stop while driving a red Yamaha Raptor 700R quad. The pursuit began on Highway 395, then Burrier led deputies on to Pinenut Road and Out R Way before traveling onto Homestead Road, refusing to stop until he ultimately collided with a patrol vehicle.

According to court documents, he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 14, 2025.

• A man who graffitied the Harvey’s parking lot and burglarized a vehicle faces four years in prison.

Carlos Alexis Cobian Solano, 21, was arrested Sept. 27 after it was discovered that he matched the description on surveillance footage of a man entering a White Ford F-550 parked at the Golden Nugget Casino and stealing a laptop, AC Vehicle Compressor, and three fuel cans.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 28, 2025.
