A Gardnerville man is facing assault and potential DUI charges resulting from his arrest after a collision at Centerville and Waterloo lanes on Monday night.

Cody Allen Battaglia, 28, was inside a Subaru that rear-ended a Hyundai around 8:50 p.m.

Nevada State Police report both vehicles were traveling southbound on Centerville Lane. One driver slowed and stopped for an approaching emergency vehicle with lights and sirens activated for a reported fire off Waterloo.

Battaglia failed to slow and stop then crashed into the rear of the stopped Hyundai. Neither driver was severely injured in the crash, according to the State Police.

According to court documents, firefighters arrived at the scene and heard screaming from the Subaru.

Battaglia allegedly popped out of the Subaru swinging a knife. He tripped and dropped the knife, which firefighters took.

Battaglia was taken into custody, but deputies said he was too intoxicated, so he was taken to Carson Valley Health to clear him and conduct a blood test. While waiting for the blood draw, Battaglia allegedly spit on the deputy.

He posted a $15,000 bond on Wednesday after an East Fork Justice Court hearing where his attorney agreed that he was extremely intoxicated.

“Had that been the sheriff’s office and you came out with a knife, you probably wouldn’t be sitting here today,” Justice of the Peace Paul Gilbert observed.

“Probably not, no,” Battaglia replied.

• Deputies took a man into custody at gunpoint near the Tilman Lane 7-Eleven on the day after Thanksgiving after he led them on a chase along the main route through the Gardnerville Ranchos.

Brad Alan Lunger, 49, was spotted driving a 2007 Toyota at 20 mph in the 35 mph zone on Centerville near Waterloo Lane at 10:55 a.m. on Nov. 29.

A deputy reported the Toyota was swerving in the travel lane before driving off the pavement into the dirt before going back into the lane. The deputy conducted a traffic stop at Centerville a quarter mile north of Dresslerville.

As he got out of his patrol vehicle, the Toyota took off and turned east on Dresslerville before turning south on Tillman.

The Toyota sped up to 50 mph and passed southbound traffic in the northbound lane before reportedly running the stop sign at Manhattan.

The vehicle then slowed to 20-25 mph and the deputy decided to conduct a pursuit intervention technique to get him to stop.

The Toyota stopped facing north in both travel lanes.

Two deputies held Lunger at gunpoint while additional backup arrived. After several attempts to order him out of the vehicle he was arrested.

Deputies reported finding two empty single shot bottles of Jack Daniels and another bottle on the front passenger floorboard during an inventory search.

Lunger posted a $5,000 bond and was given a court date.
