State exempt from
own labor rules?
Editor:
One of the agencies that you have for the people is the Labor Commission, so that the employee isn’t railroaded by the employer. The employee has the protection from unfair labor practices, including disputes regarding wages.
This is all well and good, until it’s revealed that the Labor Board has no jurisdiction regarding the state itself.
It turns out that if you have an issue with the State regarding payment of wages, as my wife has unfortunately discovered, the Labor Board has zero authority over the State.
She left the employment of the State on Sept. 4.
She was owed her final check of hours, plus her accrued vacation time.
According to the Labor Board, her final check should have been cut within a week of leaving, with her PTO check being processed within the month.
As of now, neither check has been received.
When the state can exempt themselves from the rules that govern every other employer, how can the people have any faith in the government that governs them? This needs to change.
Governor Lombardo, are you listening?
How is it that the state doesn’t have to abide by the very rules that its own agency enforces?
I’m a proud Nevadan, but the state action here saddens me.
If you want the People to stand behind you and support you, fix this.
