Update: Chain controls over Spooner Summit lasted about an hour as a winter storm arrived in the Lake Tahoe area. As of 4:30 p.m. nvroads.com showed no road controls in the Douglas portion of Lake Tahoe.

Chain controls are in effect on Highway 50 over Spooner Summit as a storm rolls into the Carson Range between Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Greater Lake Tahoe region through 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are predicting 4-10 inches of heavy wet snow with twice that above 6,500 feet, with 130 mph gusts over the ridges and 2-4-foot waves on Lake Tahoe.

Chain controls on 50 stop south of Glenbrook as of 2:45 p.m. but Weather Service radar shows a front rolling north to south.

The nvroads.com traffic camera on Kingsbury Grade is showing light snow falling.

Motorists should check road conditions before setting out on the evening commute.
