Genoa, Nev. — The annual Channel 2 Share Your Christmas Drive-by Food Drive will be underway between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. today on the east side of the Carson Valley Inn. Santa is expected to arrive via fire truck at 10 a.m.

East Fork firefighters responded to a on White Oak Loop in Winhaven at 12:53 a.m. today. Firefighters reported the power is off to the home and that a building inspector will have to take a look.

Update: I went by there this morning, and there wasn't any obvious damage visible from the street. I heard back from East Fork that it was a mattress fire.

The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra will perform 7 p.m. tonight and Saturday in the CVIC Hall. The performance is sponsored by the Town of Minden. Pick up free tickets at gadZooks!, 1492 Main St., Gardnerville.

Wreaths Across America is 9 a.m. Saturday at Garden Cemetery and Eastside Memorial Park. There’s a lot going on Saturday, including the celebration of the Douglas County Community & Senior Center’s first decade from noon to 5 p.m.

Pick up a copy of The R-C and check the calendar for a list of events, including Santa sightings, sales, and concerts. On stands now, only a buck.

A wind advisory kicks off 10 p.m. tonight through 4 p.m. Saturday with 20-30 mph winds gusting to 55 mph and wind prone areas could see gusts of around 65 mph.

According to nvroads.com, chains or four-wheel-drive with snow tires are being required for driving in the Sierra pretty much all around Lake Tahoe. It looks like they might have received a little snow overnight.

After a pretty lackluster storm on Thursday, I’m a little hesitant to raise the possibility for today, but here we go. A winter storm warning is in effect for the Lake Tahoe region above 6,500 feet starting 1 p.m., with winds 45 mph gusting to 120 over the ridges. Check road conditions before heading into the mountains.

There’s a slight chance of rain before 10 a.m. today, with the snow level hitting 6,600 feet this afternoon. Otherwise expect partly sunny skies and a high near 49 degrees. The wind will shift to the southwest at 5-10 mph before lunchtime.
