Gatlin Beronio’s lucky year was 2024, as he drew a coveted Nevada bull elk tag.

“He spent eight hard days on the mountain …, facing all the adversity the Nevada desert will throw at you this time of year,” said dad Dave Beronio, a professional hunting guide. “The difficulties made his hunt truly memorable, (wind, snow, freezing temps, early mornings, late nights, steep hikes, and long drives, then a two-day heavy packout to bring it full circle).”

Gatlin harvested this bull elk on Nov. 13.

Beronio honed his hunting skills by learning from his dad.

“An older bull, he was definitely a fighter as evidenced by several broken tines on his antlers,” Gatlin said, “and what was important to me was time on the mountain with my dad, a beautiful Nevada bull, and a couple hundred pounds of incredible elk meat in the freezer.”

Gatlin is the son of Denise Beronio and grandson of Minden Town Board member Larry Walsh and his wife Judy.
