Update: Rescuers are responded to a reported two-vehicle collision half way up the Carson Valley side of Kingsbury Grade around 7:10 a.m. Saturday.

There are no reports of injury, but conditions on the highway are slick.

A winter weather advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Reno for much of Western Nevada through 4 p.m. today.

Snow accumulations of 2-6 inches above 5,000 feet and up to an inch below 5,000 feet.

Chain controls are in effect on all highways traveling through the Sierra Nevada as of 3 a.m. Saturday.

NVRoads.com shows snow on Highway 50 at Cave Rock not far above Lake Tahoe. Only South Lake Tahoe proper doesn't have a requirement for chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires among the routes around Lake Tahoe.

On Friday evening, the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office closed Bear Valley subdivision roads due to heavy snow and hazardous conditions. The roads will remain closed until conditions improve and it is recommended residents remove their vehicles immediately from the subdivision roads, according to county spokesman JT Chevallier.

Access through the commercial core in town will be reduced to one-way only.

There was a lot more wind than precipitation overnight, with Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reporting a 52 mph wind gust at around 12:30 a.m. and .08 inches of moisture.

Garvin was bracketed by higher wind gusts, with Sheridan reporting 68 mph for the top gust in Carson Valley and Emigrant Trail and Highway 88 in Alpine County coming in at 67 mph, both at 1 a.m.

Chain controls over Spooner Summit lasted about an hour as a winter storm arrived in the Lake Tahoe area. As of 4:30 p.m. nvroads.com showed no road controls in the Douglas portion of Lake Tahoe.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Greater Lake Tahoe region through 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are predicting 4-10 inches of heavy wet snow with twice that above 6,500 feet, with 130 mph gusts over the ridges and 2-4-foot waves on Lake Tahoe.

Chain controls on 50 stop south of Glenbrook as of 2:45 p.m. but Weather Service radar shows a front rolling north to south.

Motorists should check road conditions before setting out on the evening commute.
