Proceeds from the Carson Valley Community Theatre’s fall production of “Misery” contributed to a $100 check to Tahoe Youth and Family Services on Monday.

One of the Carson Valley Community Theatre’s values is to foster the spirit of inclusion and diversity in all activities and one of the ways that is accomplished is through giving back to the community.

“The Carson Valley Community Theatre tries to promote other nonprofits at their shows,” said Carson Valley Community Theatre secretary Diana Jones. “To me it’s important because if people are going to come see us, we want to give back to the community.”

Jones said due to the nature of “Misery” the theatre thought a nonprofit that deals with mental health services seemed the appropriate recipient.

Tahoe Youth and Family Services provides substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, human trafficking education, and support programs including referrals, rehousing and transitional living programs. Visit https://www.tahoeyouth.org/ for more information.

Tahoe Youth and Family Services Executive Director Cheyanne Lane said the money is going to be used in the organization’s comprehensive behavioral health program.

“We are really grateful for this opportunity and collaborating with Diana and the theatre,” said Lane.

As a Steven King fan, Tahoe Youth and Family Services Client Advocate Meaghan Dobson said the performance of “Misery” by the Carson Valley Community Theatre was “very well done.”

“I was grateful we were chosen as the nonprofit and for those of us who were able to enjoy the show,” said Dobson.

Organized in May 2004, the Carson Valley Community Theatre is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, performing arts theatre production company providing entertainment and cultural education while showcasing local talent in live theatre productions.

The Carson Valley Community Theatre’s next production is expected to be in the Spring of 2025 with a performance of “The Sweet Delilah Swim Club.”
