Genoa, Nev. — Blasting for avalanche control at Heavenly on Monday morning shook the office in Minden. The Sierra Avalanche Center reported four slab avalanches on Elephants Hump above Red Lake in Alpine County that appeared to have occurred on Saturday.
We might receive information on the identities of the people involved in Monday morning’s shooting in Johnson Lane today.
A traffic collision 11:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 50 at Skyland tied up Tahoe Douglas firefighters for more than 90 minutes. It was the second collision in under four hours, with a report at Highway 50 and Zephyr Point just after 8 p.m. East Fork responded to a collision at Topsy Lane around 8:35 p.m. Monday.
Jealous of all the shaking going on over in Mason Valley, a 3.22 magnitude earthquake occurred north of Diamond Valley Road in Alpine County around 6:40 p.m. Monday. Even those folks on top of it likely didn’t feel much.
Monday’s storm was a little wetter than anticipated with .6 inches falling south of Sheridan, according to the National Weather Service. Snow telemetry indicates Heavenly Valley received 2 inches of wet snow.
Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 51 degrees. The breeze will die down from 5 mph by lunchtime. The rest of the week is predicted to be fairly warm with high temperatures approaching 60 degrees.
