Genoa, Nev. — A handful of people welcomed the solstice with a walk between Heritage Park Gardens and Martin Slough Trail on a drizzly Saturday. They were greeted by a rainbow.

The wind was howling on Saturday morning with a 65 mph gust in Alpine View and double nickels in Sheridan and Fish Springs. Woodfords had a 62 mph gust.

Heavenly Mountain Resort reported 5 inches of snow for the past week, and only an inch over the weekend. Kingsbury didn’t look like much of a driving challenge over the weekend.

Gardnerville Health & Sanitation customers with a Wednesday, pickup will be changed to Tuesday this week for Christmas. Minden’s Wednesday trash pickup customers are asked to put their trash out by 6 a.m. Tuesday this week and next. Douglas Disposal is picking up at its regular schedule.

Voting on the Gallery of Trees wraps up on Christmas Eve, which is Tuesday. The trees are set up in the Main Gallery of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

The R-C is closing at noon Tuesday, but someone will be in the office in the morning. We should be there until 4 p.m. today.

A winter weather advisory has been issued 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the entire length of the Sierra Nevada by the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for 2 inches of snow near Lake Tahoe level with 2-6 inches above 6,500 feet, so not a huge producer. We might see up to a tenth of an inch of rain in the Valley

If you’re headed to grandmother’s house, today is the day to travel. The forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high of 57 degrees and the wind out of the southeast at 5 mph.
