Genoa, Nev. — Three people were transported for treatment Wednesday reportedly with moderate injuries from a 4:30 p.m. T-bone type collision at Highway 88 and Kimmerling Road. One of the four occupants declined an ambulance ride. The highway was closed while the wreckage was cleared.

I didn’t have any trouble finding eggs in Gardnerville on Monday and Tuesday, but ran into one store that’s rationing them due to the avian flu. California declared a state of emergency on Dec. 18 after the flu was found in dairy cows.

As of 5 a.m. today, the only road controls are over Mount Rose Highway and with high-profile vehicle ban on Interstate 580 due to wind. A wind advisory is in effect for Western Nevada until noon today. There’s a winter weather advisory in effect for the Sierra until noon Friday.

Heavenly reported it received 8 inches of snow in the Christmas Eve storm, while the top of Kingsbury received 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service. There was a dusting of snow on Christmas morning in parts of Carson Valley.

Forecasters are betting any moisture we receive in this storm will arrive tonight, and there won’t be much, either. The Christmas Eve storm ended up snarling Interstate 80 for a time, so any amount can affect routes through the mountains.

It is 10 degrees warmer this morning at Minden-Tahoe Airport than it was before midnight last night. As of 4:55 a.m. the temperature was 48 degrees. The airport had a maximum wind gust of 39 mph at 1:15 a.m., so it will be breezy out today.

Today’s forecast predicts a chance of showers between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. with the snow level at 6,600 feet. The sun should make an appearance and the high temperature around 50 degrees, which some places experienced before dawn.
