Genoa, Nev. — A 79 mph gust at 3:50 a.m. today just south of Mottsville Lane and Highway 88 looks like the region’s highest as of 6 a.m. today, with in the 70s in that spot. There’s plenty of wind to go around though this morning.

The wind knocked down a big tree along Orchard Road, which was cut up by firefighters around 5 a.m. I expect a lot of damage will come to light once dawn breaks.

Power appears to have been restored to 52 NV Energy customers in Chichester Estates as of 5:45 a.m. after a 4:15 a.m. outage. Check nvenergy.com for updates. If the wind’s still blowing, there will likely still be outages.

Chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires are being required over Kingsbury, in addition to most other mountain routes. A check of the Daggett Summit traffic camera on nvroads.com doesn’t show much going on up top, but that could change.

If you’re heading to Reno this morning anticipate a bumpy ride through Washoe Valley with a high-profile vehicle ban in place due to high winds, though not quite as high as Carson Valley, so far.

Today is the deadline for incoming elected officials to RSVP to be sworn in on 3-5 p.m. Jan. 2. Send a note to elections@douglasnv.us or call 775-783-6095 to let them know you’re coming so they can make a list. The ceremony is at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.

These mornings have been really warm with 50s showing across the Valley. The snow level is at 8,300 feet but is supposed to drop to 6,800 feet this afternoon. I would be surprised if it gets much warmer today, with the high forecast to be 54 degrees. The wind is supposed to finally slow down around 1 p.m.
