Genoa, Nev. — There are chain controls through the Sierra on Highway 88 and Interstate 80, but 50 is clear from Carson City to Sacramento. NVroads.com is showing debris on Highway 28 north of Spooner Junction, but that’s about it.
If you’re headed south down Highway 395 there’s a big rig on its side near Mono City. CalTrans was able to push it off the road, some and reopen it around 5 p.m. Sunday. The driver was transported with minor injuries.
I counted around 16 Christmas bird counters at Whit Hall on the River Fork Preserve on Sunday morning. You could hear hunters shooting in the distance, working their own bird count on a rainy, windy morning.
A 59 mph wind gust 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the aerometer on Highway 88 south of Mottsville was the highest recorded on Sunday. Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin recorded .57 inches of rain with a 41 mph gust. A gauge near the Genoa Lakes Ranch Course recorded .73 inches
Sunday’s was a very warm storm, with Heavenly Mountain Resort reporting 2 inches of new snow over the weekend, bringing the total for the week to 14 inches. The snow depth at both Carson and Ebbetts passes is at 34 inches this morning, according to the snow telemetry.
It was raining rainbow photos over the weekend. I’ll do my best to get as many in as I can for the Jan. 1 edition.
I don’t think we’re going to be seeing any rainbows today, with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 43 degrees. It will be odd not having to dodge branches and debris for the first time in days with the wind out of the north at 5 mph becoming calm this afternoon.
