The Welcome to Gardnerville sign was one of the victims of the recent rough weather. But a week of better weather is in the cards, according to forecasters.

Genoa, Nev. — I received word on Thursday that tickets to the Father-Daughter Dance at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center have sold out. If you bought them over the phone, make sure to pick them up today.

Congratulations to Jodi Brunz who was named Genoa Town Manager on Wednesday night. Brunz is the fourth manager in Nevada’s Oldest Town in four years, but since she’s been in the office the whole time, she’s had a front-row seat to see what works.

Lil Mama’ Hardy performs 7 p.m. tonight at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Information, www.artscouncil.com or 775-782-8207.

Genoans are playing Bingo 4-7 p.m. Saturday to raise money to fix the Town Hall. The roof on the porch is sagging and the old girl could use some work, though at 138 years old, she doesn’t look a day over 120.

It was snowing lightly as Republicans waited to check in at Nevada’s Oldest precinct in Genoa on Thursday night. With both the caucus and primary in the rear-view mirror, attention turns to local races with filing March 4-15.

Minden Town Board members recommended approval of the 324-unit first phase of Buckeye Farms with conditions on Wednesday night.

Consensus is that the new version comes a lot closer to the specific plan than that presented to planning commissioners last month. The project goes to the planning commission for a zoning map amendment on Tuesday.

Minden also approved a splash pad for Westwood Park on Wednesday. When work will begin is still a question, but it’s on the books.

For the first time in a while, there isn’t a watch, warning or advisory involving Western Nevada or the Sierra. There aren’t any chain controls in the county, with the exception of the Douglas section of Highway 28 north of Spooner Junction.

We might see some snow showers this afternoon, but nothing too serious. Otherwise the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high near 40 degrees. A northerly breeze of 5 mph will pick up this morning.
