There’s a new manager in Genoa, though she’s no stranger to Nevada’s oldest town.

Jody Brunz had the interim removed from the front of her title last week.

Brunz has served as the office specialist for the town over the past four years, having worked for the previous three managers.

She took over in the interim after previous manager David Qualls resigned at the end of his first year.

A Minden resident, Brunz came to work for the town from Douglas County Community Development in August 2021.

“Since the day I arrived in Genoa, I have had a mix of responsibilities,” she said. “Genoa is a small office operating on an even smaller annual budget requiring all employees to handle a mix of responsibilities and duties.”

Brunz worked for Bently Nevada for eight years before taking a break to travel in 2003. She went back to work for Douglas County in 2018.

The town has only had a manager since the turn of the century.

In addition to supervising the two other employees in the office, the town manager is a key coordinator for the annual Candy Dance, which raises the lion’s share of the town’s revenue.

The town board delayed discussion of whether to separate the Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire, which is celebrating 50 years from the event that gave it its name.

A proposal to move the dinner Dance, which will be celebrating 105 years, to the week before the craft fair that shuts down the town for the last weekend in September is under consideration.
