A third seasonal book sale is Friday and Saturday at the Minden Branch of the Douglas County Public Library.
The library shifted from its big spring and fall sales to conducting smaller sales each quarter.
Organized by the Friends of the Douglas County Public Library, the sales feature paperback and hardcover fiction and nonfiction, children’s books, CDs, DVDs, and puzzles.
Sales help support the Friends, who raised almost $30,000 in funding over the course of 2023, which included a direct grant to support a score or more of library programs.
On Jan. 27, the Friends re-elected its officers, President Barb Wilson, Vice President Catherine Bennett, Secretary Sue Moxley and Treasurer Margie Donaldson at the annual meeting.
They said farewell to directors Marion Barritt, Linda Class and Sally Jasperson.
Author Clare Frank conducted a reading from her book “Burnt — A Memoir of Firefighting.” Frank also conducted a book signing.
The book sale features used books donated to the library and includes a preview sale for Friends of the Library noon to 3 p.m. Friday; nonmembers can join at the door.
Friends receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases throughout the sale. The public sale will be from 3-5:30 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with half-price sale from 3-4 p.m. Saturday.
Donations of a box or bag of gently used books are accepted at the Minden library during library hours. Larger donations are accepted on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1- 3 p.m. only.
Proceeds from the book sales are used by the Friends to support library programs and projects for infants, preschoolers, children, “tweens,” teens and adults.
By far last year’s biggest fundraiser was the first Library Gala in October, which raised more than $18,000 for library programs. Next year’s gala is scheduled to take place Oct. 5.
