Douglas Math Club members Ender Dempsey, Carlo Barton, Kevin O’Connell, Anthony Pacurar, and Tyler Reinhardt won their first two matches in the Nevada Regional Science Bowl on Feb 3, according to coach Christine Ensign. They lost a tiebreaker by a point, just missing the Sweet 16, placing 17th overall in the 32 team field.

Genoa, Nev. — Planning commissioners approved a zoning map 7-0 for Buckeye Farms Neighborhood 1 on Tuesday. The 324-unit project is scheduled to be introduced at Thursday’s county commissioners meeting.


An effort to reduce the number of vacation home rentals in Lincoln Park was debated by planning commissioners on Tuesday. I’m familiar with the neighborhood having stayed there a week back in 1990 and pulling onto Highway 50 was definitely an adventure.


Main Street Gardnerville Director Jen Nalder competed with construction noise during her presentation on the coming reconstruction of Highway 395 this spring. There were a lot of folks in attendance for a 7:30 a.m. meeting.


A 24-hour winter weather advisory is in effect for Markleeville, Stateline and Glenbrook starting 10 a.m. today. Between 6-12 inches of snow is forecast above 5,500 feet with 10-20 inches above 7,000 feet.


Whatever precipitation is rolling in today won’t turn up until this afternoon along with 15-20 mph southerly winds, gusting to around 30 mph. We could see up to a quarter inch of rain overnight and a trace of snow in Carson Valley just before midnight. We’ll could see some sun this afternoon as the winds scramble the clouds with a high temperature predicted to be 49 degrees.
