Genoa, Nev. — The $1.4 million to work on Kahle Drive up at Stateline apparently was sent to Douglas County, Colo., Commission Chairman Wes Rice said at the end of Thursday’s meeting. Speaking of the government, Monday is Washington’s Birthday. Local, state and federal offices will be closed as will the post office and financial institutions. If you’ve got pressing business, might be best to conduct it today.

Those with county sewer will see their rates go up from $72.08 to $75.68 on July 1 after county commissioners approved the increase on Thursday. Those rates will rise annually until they reach $86.01 a month on July 1, 2029, under Thursday’s approval.

Most people living in the towns of Minden, Gardnerville and the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District are served by Minden-Gardnerville Sanitation District, which increased its rates last fall. Indian Hills also provides its own sewer service, and the rest of Valley residents are on septic.

Today’s is the shortest forecast, ever. Partly sunny with a high near 50 degrees and calm wind. That will get a little more complicated as we get into the weekend, with a winter weather advisory at Lake Tahoe 10 a.m. Saturday and a winter storm watch in Mono County starting Sunday afternoon.
