Genoa, Nev. — NV Energy has informed the East Fork Fire Protection District they won’t be funding the wildland crew that has been clearing brush around power lines across Carson Valley for the last three years.


After the two wrecks related to slick roads on Tuesday morning, things quieted down. The temperature in Minden is right around freezing and there might be some freezing fog out before 10 a.m., so take it easy on the drive in this morning.


UNR Master Gardeners will discuss sowing native seeds in a milk jug greenhouse 5:30 p.m. today in Gardnerville. The cost is $5 per person. Email jessicagardner@unr.edu for reservations and information.


These February storms have helped with the snow drought with Carson Pass snow telemetry recording 2 feet since the storm began, bringing it to 78 inches as of this morning. An additional 30 inches of snow fell at Ebbetts Pass from the storm.


The 1.35 inches of rain that fell in Minden on Washington’s Birthday is officially a record for Feb. 19. That brings the Douglas County seat up to 26 inches of snow for the month, which is 2.5 inches short of the record set in 2019.


A winter weather advisory ends 10 a.m. today for Lake Tahoe and Markleeville, though as far as Carson Valley went, most of the weather has already moved on. Chain controls remain over Kingsbury Grade and on Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe.


There’re some clouds out this morning, but those are predicted to clear this morning leaving mostly sunny skies with a forecast high temperature around 47 degrees. The west wind will pick up to 5-10 mph this afternoon.
