Slick conditions at Tramway Drive and Jacks Circle resulted in a 16-car pileup that included a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle on Wednesday evening.
While no injuries were reported, the collisions reported at 4:46 p.m. was recorded and posted to the Tahoe Locals Facebook page.
Undersheriff Ron Elges said that once deputies could shut down Tramway at Bonnie, they were able to stop the flow of vehicles on the slick hill.
The video shows cars hitting the slope and sliding out of control into others.
“Once they were able to clear the people away and then the vehicles, snowplows were brought in to help with the road conditions,” he said.
Several noninjury collisions have been reported involving slick conditions at Lake Tahoe, and it’s not likely to get better with the impending snow.
Deputies had to close off the eastbound tunnel of Cave Rock around 4:15 p.m. Thursday after a vehicle hit the wall on the north side.
It was the second single vehicle collision that day, after rescuers responded to a report of a blue sedan on its top at Highway 50 and Logan Creek.
Road controls have been in place on and off at Lake Tahoe as one storm followed another, leaving just enough precipitation to make routes slick.
