The Douglas County Historical Society will be celebrating National Women in History Month by recognizing women alive or deceased who have lived in Douglas County and have made a significant historical contribution to the quality of life in Douglas County.

The Historical Society is asking members of the community to participate in this program by nominating women they feel meet the criteria.

“The Women in History Remembering Project preserves the history these special women have made,” organizers said. “All information will be archived in the Vansickle Research Library at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville and also at the Nevada Women’s History Project in Reno.”

Nomination packets are available at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center front desk or online at www.historicnv.org

The deadline for submitting a nominee is 4 p.m. Feb. 23.

An afternoon reception and program to honor these women is

2 p.m. March 23 at the Gardnerville museum, located at 1479 Main St.

The histories will be shared, and light refreshments will be served. The public is invited free of charge. Doors open at 1 p.m.
