Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Schemenaur filed for East Fork Justice of the Peace on Thursday.
"I am dedicated to fairness, integrity, and public service,” he said. “My unique blend of education, law enforcement experience, and military service positions me as a candidate who truly understands the needs of our community. I am eager to apply my skills to serve the people of Douglas County as Justice of the Peace."
Citing a 30-year professional journey encompassing law enforcement, military service, and academic achievements, Schemenauer is a 26-year resident of Douglas County.
He has been married for 25 of those years to Cindy. The couple’s daughter graduated from Douglas High School in 2020.
Schemenauer said he possesses a profound understanding of the rural values that define Douglas County and the pivotal role that justice plays within the community.
Schemenauer served as a 10-year SWAT Team member and detective to contributions with multiple narcotics task forces and is an FBI Certified Bomb Technician for the past 11 years. His involvement in the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad included community outreach and public education.
He has conducted demonstrations to educate businesses, organizations, other law enforcement agencies and the community on the capabilities and duties of the bomb squad.
Schemenauer has also served as the primary-lead instructor for agency training to include, firearms, ASP, and Taser.
“I possess the educational foundation required to navigate the intricacies of the judicial system,” he said, citing a juris doctor of law, a master's degree in management and leadership, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
He said he has achieved the highest levels of Peace Officer Standards and Training certificates, including the supervisory and management certificates.
Schemenauer was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and served in the United Nations Honor Guard while stationed in Korea.
