Pile burns in Alpine County’s Pleasant Valley were completed with the arrival of snow and organizers plan to deal with any lingering hot spots this week.
“On Monday, the large piles at the top of the hill by the water tank on Pleasant Valley Road were burned,” Spokesman JT Chevallier. “The public and residents are asked to avoid the area for their safety and the safety of the fire crews. Personnel and apparatus will be in the area monitoring the burn throughout the day.”
Organizers moved onto the area above Markleevillage on Monday.
Chevallier said smoke may linger into the evening and early morning on Tuesday with minor impacts.
Meanwhile, at Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team will be conducting slash pile burns near Spooner and in North Lake Tahoe.
Smoke from these operations may be present throughout the Tahoe Basin and surrounding areas.
The fuels teams includes North Lake Tahoe and North Tahoe fire protection districts, Nevada Division of Forestry and the US Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, will continue burning slash piles this week, conditions and weather permitting.
