Western Nevada College student Amanda Jackson received the Edith Milo $1,000 scholarship from the John C. Fremont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Jackson’s ultimate goal is to earn a master’s degree in social work.

She is working towards completing her associate’s degree. She said she would like to specialize in the treatment of women with substance abuse issues and PTSD.

She works full time for the past six years for Advocates to End Domestic Violence in Carson City.

When Jackson first attended college, she returned to college as a single mom of four after more than two years away from school. She has been happily married since 2021.

This is one of the many scholarships and grants that are available from the John C. Fremont Chapter.  For more information, contact through johncfremont.dar@gmail.com or 510-375-3110.

Grants are open to all students including those who are homeschooled.

WNC Dean's List

More than a tenth of the nearly 500 Western Nevada College students named to the 2023 Fall 2023 Dean’s List are Douglas County residents.

Almost 70 of the 487 students included on the list hail from Gardnerville, Minden or Genoa.

“We are very pleased that the number of students on the Dean’s List is increasing as our enrollment rises,” said WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe noting the college’s 17 percent enrollment increase compared to last fall. “Their academic dedication and success reflect that their comprehension of course material is outstanding and that our faculty is developing exceptional students. We are proud to recognize all of these students.”

To earn the distinction of making the Dean’s List students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Earning this academic honor from Douglas, Alpine and Mono counties are:
