We’re starting to see more woodstove related fire calls, including one on Mill Street Wednesday afternoon that generated some smoke, but no flames. Last night a call in Ruhenstroth was for a heater that had just turned on. There was a pellet stove call in TRE on Tuesday morning where firefighters found the wall smoldering.
I’m also hearing quite a few calls for people slipping on the ice. It may warm up enough today to get rid of some of it, but be careful on shadowed sidewalks.
Today is the last day of judicial filing. As of Thursday evening, we still just have two races that won’t be resolved until November if no one else files today. You can find out more at govotedouglas.com
We’re on the eve of the Martin Luther King Day weekend, which means government offices, banks and the post office will be closed Monday.
A winter storm warning kicks off at Lake Tahoe and the Sierra starting just after midnight tonight and lasting through 4 a.m. Sunday.
The sun may be a little bit of a stranger today as a new front rolls in tonight. The high temperature is forecast to hit 42 degrees today with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph. We won’t see much precipitation before 4 a.m. Saturday morning. When it does get going we could see up to a third of an inch of rain over the weekend.
