Genoa, Nev. — There are some changes in the previously reported locations for the Republican caucus on Feb. 8. Precinct 5 will shift from the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department to the Genoa Town Hall. Ruhenstroth’s Precinct 17 voters will be going to the Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville.

East Fork firefighters responded to a chimney fire on Kimmerling near Wheeler in the Gardnerville Ranchos around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. They doused the firebox and checked the attic for damage.

Two hit and run collisions were reported in different parts of the county 1-2 p.m. Tuesday. One at Waterloo and Highway 395 may have resulted in an arrest. The other was sideswiped up north and I didn’t hear whether the vehicle was found.

East Fork Fire Protection District trustees approved contracts for cell towers at Minden Station 14 and Johnson Lane Station 6. Minden has been a dead spot for cell service for a while.

It’s another blustery morning after a fairly dry storm exits Western Nevada. The peak wind speed recorded by the National Weather Service was 61 mph 1:20 a.m. at Sheridan, and a 57 mph gust at 2:30 a.m. along Highway 88 just south of Mottsville Lane.

I’ve got .4 inches of precipitation in my gauge just north of Genoa this morning. Woodfords has .68 inches and Fredericksburg, .46 inches. Heavenly Valley snow telemetry indicates 4 inches of snow since 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The wind will die down for a bit this morning before picking up again around 10 a.m., though with only 20-25 mph gusts forecast, it’s going to be a little lighter.

Today, the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 48 degrees with the southwest wind 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
