Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County election clerks started verifying signatures Monday on the vacation home rental petition turned in last week. Organizers aren’t saying how many signatures they obtained, but in a statement The R-C received last night said there are more than enough.

The livestream is online at govotedouglas.com, where people can watch election workers verify the petitions and deconstruct mailed ballots. Press the yellow button and it will take you to YouTube, where the algorithm served me a VRBO ad.

Tahoe Douglas medics responded to a report of a 65-year-old woman hit by a sledder at Sled Hill above Spooner Junction at Lake Tahoe around 2 p.m. Monday. She was taken to Barton for treatment. The Stateline Post Office was hit by a vehicle about an hour later.

An excavator hit a gas line near Heybourne and Firebrand in Carson Valley around 10 a.m. Monday. There’s a lot of construction going on in that vicinity.

Library Board trustees will talk about the 2024-25 budget at their meeting 10 a.m. today at the Minden Branch. Trustees are acknowledging $5,000 in grants at today’s meeting.

The high avalanche danger warning expires 7 a.m. today. Heavenly was firing the artillery on Monday morning in order to shake loose potential issues before skiers got on the slopes.

Snow telemetry at Heavenly Valley is showing 2 inches fell over the last 24 hours making for another fairly dry front. I have .04 inches in my gauge north of Genoa. The precipitation generated some fairly thick fog in the Valley this morning. Be careful on your commute.

The fog is forecast to burn off by 10 a.m. revealing mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 48 degrees. The wind is expected to pick up out of the north at 5 mph.
