Genoa, Nev. — Nicer weather has road work continuing on Highway 395 from Gardnerville to Ruhenstroth. Nvroads.com has construction work on Main Street through town until Feb. 9, but that could be extended. Meanwhile, further south the shoulders are closed between Palomino Lane and Riverview through Feb. 29, if I’m reading that right.


A winter storm watch has been issued for the Sierra Nevada, including Lake Tahoe and the Carson Range starting 4 p.m. Wednesday and lasting through 10 a.m. Friday. Forecasters are predicting 1-2 feet of snow above 7,000 feet and a chance of up to 3 feet near the Sierra crest.


That’s going to be a drastic change from the first part of the week. On Monday, Minden weather watcher Stan Kapler reported a record 69-degree high temperature for Jan. 29. We could see the 64-degree record set in 2012 fall today.


While only .3 inches of precipitation is forecast to fall in Minden and at most a few flurries expected in Carson Valley looks like mostly breezy and cooler conditions toward the end of the week.

Today’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 61 degrees. Expect the wind to pick up out of the southwest at 5 mph.
