There's a lot of wood from the Tamarack Fire still out there.

Over the next couple of weeks, log hauling will begin on Thornburg Canyon Road (Forest Service Road 071) near Hot Springs Road in Markleeville.

Mooretown Rancheria of Concow Maidu Indians of California are removing the log decks on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District that were created from the 2021 Tamarack Fire restoration efforts.

The public is advised to drive slowly and watch for log trucks when in the area. Remember, these trucks have limited maneuverability and longer stopping distances. Keep a safe distance away from log trucks to decrease the risk of debris hitting your vehicle. Also, be careful driving around blind corners, you never know who or what is on the other side.

Mooretown Rancheria was contracted by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest to deliver the wood to the Washoe Tribes of Nevada and California. The U.S. Forest Service has an ongoing partnership with the Washoe Tribe to supply fuelwood from forest restoration projects.
