A new design for Turtle Rock Park, which was damaged in the Tamarack Fire, has been presented to the public.

Alpine County released the first conceptual designs for the Turtle Rock Park master plan.

This milestone marks a pivotal step in the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance and revitalize one of its key recreational spaces.

“We are thrilled to share these initial designs with the community,” said Alpine County Community Development Director Sam Booth. “Turtle Rock Park is a treasured asset, and our goal is to ensure it returns as a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone. We look forward to receiving valuable feedback from our residents and visitors to help shape the planning process.”

Conceptual designs were developed by Design Workshop, which aimed to create an environment that will serve both residents and visitors. The proposed plans include a variety of features such as improved picnic areas, upgraded trails, new playgrounds, and enhanced facilities to support a wide range of outdoor activities.

Alpine County is inviting residents and visitors to review the draft concepts and provide their input. Feedback is crucial in ensuring the master plan meets the diverse needs and desires of the community.

The feedback period will be open until July 30. The feedback will then be included into a preferred master plan design. Alpine County will host a series of additional public meetings and workshops to discuss the designs and gather further input. Dates and details for these events will be announced soon. The goal is to complete the master plan by the end of 2024 and secure funding for final design and construction.

The park was devastated by the Tamarack Fire which ripped through its campground destroying trees and camping vehicles.
