Genoa, Nev. — The Just a Drop In Farmers Market is taking a break today for the Fourth of July before it reopens next week in the Stratton Center. Operator Teressa Bennis said she wanted to avoid construction in the northbound lanes of Highway 395 for 3-4 weeks.

A proposed Verizon 5G tower at East Fork Station 14 goes to the Minden Town Board 5:30 p.m. today. Town Board members will also be asked to pick one of the courthouse designs.

Genoa Town Board members will discuss shaving an hour off the time that the Candy Dance Craft Faire is open on Sunday, wrapping up at 4 p.m. Things quiet down that afternoon as vendors prepare to roll out. There’s also a question about increasing booth fees for the 2025 faire. Fees were last increased in 2021, according to the agenda.

Trash rates are likely going to increase in Gardnerville next year, according to Town Manager Erik Nilssen, who said that they’re going to have to increase by 10 percent just to break even, and that doesn’t account for the trucks.

Douglas County commissioners are expected to hear a request for an increase from Douglas Disposal at their July 18 meeting, according to Nilssen’s report.

The R-C is back open after the air conditioning was fixed on Sunday, just in time to be closed Thursday for the Fourth. If you’ve got pressing business with the post office, bank, or government, best to get it taken care of today.

There was a two-hour Spectrum outage 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Genoa, at least. There was a report of wires down over in the East Valley right around the same time, but correlation doesn’t equal causation.

If anything the temperatures forecast for this weekend keep getting hotter as we get closer with 103 degrees predicted for Sunday and 102 degrees on Saturday and Monday.

Enjoy the sunny skies and high near 96 degrees today. The wind is forecast to pick up out of the northwest at 5-10 mph.
