Plans are underway for a “Those Were the Days” class reunion Sept. 7 for Douglas County High School classes 1961 through 1966 at the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room in Gardnerville.
The meet and greet is 5 p.m., with dinner 6-7 p.m. on the patio.
Reservations and payment for dinner must be received by August 17.
Those unable to make dinner or who are not a member of the classes 1961- 1966 are invited to join them for drinks or stop by after dinner for a drink and stories about those good old days.
“Remember, ‘Those Were the Days’ when we never had a bus driver shortage, the bus drivers were DCHS students,” organizer Laurie Hickey said. “Those who lived out of town even kept the buses at their homes. All the drivers picked up everyone including elementary.”
After every home football and basketball game, there was a dance in the lunchroom chaperoned by teachers and parents. The music was provided by records and a record player.
“We had a great time, today that would be so not cool,” Hickey said
Remember Homecoming with a bon fire, and snake-dance, down the sidewalks of Gardnerville, in and out of every open business.
“The elaborate class floats stuffed with hundreds of napkins for the parade down Main Street,” Hickey said. “After the game another dance in the crepe paper decorated lunchroom or gym.
