Genoa, Nev. — I got word from the county on Wednesday that Silver State Towing reported towing 43 cars over July 4-6. That comes with a correction for the total on the Fourth, down one to 22. Saturday saw 16 vehicles towed, because clearly there was a whole other bunch of folks whose optimism blinded them to the no-parking signs.

Celebrity Golf is swinging into action at Lake Tahoe, which means there’s going to be a lot of folks up around Edgewood. I’ve been at the Lake for that weekend, and actually found that the further you get from Stateline the quieter it gets.

CalTrans has been working on Highway 4 between Ebbetts Pass and the junction with 89 in preparation for this weekend’s Death Ride. Anticipate closures throughout Alpine County on Saturday.

I checked on the Just a Drop In Farmers Market at its new digs in the Stratton Center. Teressa Bennis said some folks didn’t recognize the name of the center. It’s at 1532 Main St. just south of Wells Fargo.

Waterloo and Highway 395 will be closed today, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation, as will Lampe Drive, Mission and Eddy streets. Gilman Avenue and streets north of there will be open.

East Fork and Tahoe Douglas medics responded to a score of medical calls on Wednesday. I didn’t hear any specifically heat related, but that doesn’t mean the heat wasn’t a factor.

Nevada Division of Forestry helicopter H-402 was conducting bucket practice around lunchtime Wednesday in northern Carson Valley. Airnow.gov shows most of the smoke is going north or south of us, but we’re getting a little haze with barely moderate conditions this morning.

A quick scan of the high temperatures on Wednesday gives the crown to Sunridge with 102 degrees. The Gardnerville Ranchos recorded 101 degrees and the Genoa Lakes Golf Ranch hit 100. Your high temperature may vary.

Officially, we’ve had four straight days of 100-degree weather. Wednesday may end up being the fifth, and Friday the sixth, but a break is forecast for the weekend with highs in the low 90s.

Today’s high temperature is forecast to hit 101 degrees with the zephyr picking up to 10-15 mph in the afternoon.
