A few local names will be on display at the All-Star Game festivities Saturday, competing in the Futures Game showcase.
McQueen High School graduate and San Diego Padres prospect Robby Snelling has been selected to compete in next week’s exhibition.
Snelling, the Padres’ No. 2 overall prospect, per MLB.com, flew through the lower minors, but has had a few struggles this season at Double-A San Antonio.
In 70.1 innings of work this season, Snelling has a 6.14 ERA and has been tagged for 13 homers.
While his walks are also up, Snelling was masterful last season in Single-A and Double-A, combining for a 1.82 ERA in 103.2 innings pitched in 2023 — his first season in the minor leagues.
RENO ACES
The Reno Aces will also have a representative in the Futures Game in Deyvison de los Santos.
After spending 38 games of the season at Double-A, de los Santos has been ripping the cover off the ball in Triple-A.
In 81 games this season, he has hit 27 home runs and has 82 RBI to go alongside a gaudy .335 batting average and a 1.043 OPS.
For Reno, de los Santos touts a .974 OPS with 13 home runs in 43 games.
The right-handed corner infielder has played his way up the prospect charts and currently sits as the Diamondbacks’ 14th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com.
The MLB Futures Game will take place Saturday; the seven-inning showcase will be shown on the MLB Network at 1 p.m.
