Genoa, Nev. — One residential structure was lost in the Spring Valley fire, which was officially extinguished on Thursday night. On my foray down there Thursday morning I only saw a little bit of smoke on the hill north of Highway 395.
County commissioners picked courthouse option 1 by a 4-0 vote on Thursday. It was one of a half-dozen items commissioners approved on Thursday that cleared the way for site work to begin next month.
Commissioners also introduced an ordinance banning truck traffic for the short stretch of Johnson Lane east of Nye Drive. Assistant County Manager Scott Morgan said the ban is similar to one recently enacted for Waterloo Lane.
There’s a ton of stuff going on today, starting with a Dunk For Charity to benefit Suicide Prevention Network at Gardnerville’s Stewart Title featuring 15 celebrities including Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley. The dunking begins at 11 a.m. and wind up at 3:40 p.m. Three balls for $5.

It was neither as hot nor as sunny as advertised on Thursday, but we’ll try again today. The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 96 degrees with the wind out of the west at 5 mph. It could 99 on Saturday and Sunday, so plan accordingly.
