A man who drove at speeds up to 120 mph through a construction zone in April said he wants to go to prison and was granted 19-48 months Monday.
John Patrick Yorkus, 22, was arrested April 13 for speeding more than four times the speed limit through town and driving into oncoming traffic. He also knocked down multiple traffic cones while traveling north on highway 395.
According to prosecutor Ric Casper, Yorkus committed the offense while under the influence of methamphetamine.
Yorkus told the court that prison would give him a period of sobriety and provide him a chance to address his addictions.
He was given credit for 94 days.
• A woman who spat on an officer was sentenced to 90 days in Douglas County jail Monday.
Nina Marie-Ellen Donley, 25, was arrested Jan. 12 for battery of an officer.
According to court documents, Donley was arrested as an intoxicated pedestrian running in the road and screaming that she was in a domestic dispute. She was slurring her words and talking with a lisp and start convulsing when placed in the police car. When medics were called to help, she sat up and put herself on the gurney, then hit and attacked medical officers.
Donley addressed the court stating at the time of her arrest she was in a violent situation, and she struggles with alcohol and methamphetamine. Donley was sentenced for 90 days in Douglas County Jail with 48 days credit.
Donley is also facing a charge of felony battery by a prisoner where she is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday.
