Main Street paving will move traffic to northbound lanes this week

The state expects to be done with the initial paving of northbound Main Street through Gardnerville this week

The Nevada Department of Transportation plans to shift traffic from the southbound to the northbound lanes on Wednesday for final utility work and profile grinding to ensure smoothness of southbound lanes, according to spokeswoman Meg Ragonese

“In early August, drivers will see additional lane shifts for final paving, utility work and roadway striping,” she said on Tuesday morning. “Then, in mid-August, drivers will be greeted by brand-new highway lanes. With the reconstructed (highway) open, paved and striped by mid-August, drivers will continue to see periodic lane, sidewalk, and intersection closures for finishing work such as flashing pedestrian crosswalk installation.”

Ragonese said motorists will see intermittent lane and sidewalk closures up to the Labor Day weekend. The road work schedule is subject to change based on weather and other factors.

Work at Holbrook Junction had traffic down to one lane at a time on Monday as contractors poured concrete for the median on Highway 395.

“Final paving operations, known as open grade paving, will complete next week as part of NDOT’s project to resurface U.S. 395 in the Topaz area,” Ragonese said.

Motorists will continue to see intermittent single lane closures on sections of Highway 395 from the Nevada-California state line to Ray May Way between 7a.m.-5p.m. through next week for final paving. Traffic flaggers and pilot cars will alternate directions of traffic through the work zone with reduced work zone speed limits in place.

“Motorists should anticipate travel delays of up to 30 minutes and are reminded to drive safely and follow all traffic signage,” Ragonese said.

The existing northbound passing lane near Pine Valley Road has also been extended by approximately 1.5 miles, providing additional designated passing opportunities.

Following final paving, the majority of remaining work will consist of roadside electrical installations, with periodic shoulder and lane closures.
