Genoa, Nev. — There is a big old flood watch in effect for Mono, Mineral and southern Lyon counties 2 p.m. today through 8 p.m. Wednesday for the possibility of excessive rainfall running off burn scars and swelling streams and creeks. Keep in mind, the weather doesn’t have a map, so we could see some more action in south county.

A thunderstorm moved up the Pine Nuts on Monday afternoon leaving two small fires in its wake. According to Nevadafireinfo.org The Sunrise Pass fire was reportedly at 5.3 acres while the Fish Springs fire was a tenth acre.

The northbound lanes of Main Street had a nice layer of asphalt on Monday morning, which I hope offers a little light at the end of the long struggle to reconstruct that road. Sonney’s BBQ posted to social media that they’re closed until the work is done. Hopefully that won’t be for very long.

Douglas County Librarian Tim DeGhelder included re-establishing the Library Foundation as one of his goals. The Library Board of Trustees is working on his goals and expectations at their monthly meeting 10 a.m. today at the Minden branch of the Douglas County Public Library.

The National Weather Service posted a graphic that indicates that soccer accounts for 40 percent of lightning fatalities among outdoor sports. Golf is in second place at 27 percent and runners account for 17 percent. With our current weather pattern, maybe keep an eye on the skies if you’re outside.

Also at 40 percent is the chance of showers and thundershowers, mostly 2-5 p.m. The forecast calls for a high temperature of 97 degrees and the west wind 5-10 mph, unless you’re near a thunderstorm.
