Genoa, Nev. — The Sierra Front is under a flood watch through 8 p.m. today with the forecast crescendo of the monsoon moisture streaming north. The biggest chance of actual rain is 2-5 p.m. today.


A power outage affected 8,708 NV Energy customers across Douglas County around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. I’ve reached out to the power company to learn what I can about the full extent and cause.


Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin said his lightning detector lit up 63 times, but he didn’t receive a drop of rain. A gauge at the top of Pine Nut Creek recorded 1.47 inches over four hours 3:30-6:30 p.m., which accounted for the flood alert. Double Spring Flat received 1.13 inches, according to a National Weather Service gauge.


Firefighters responded to one report of smoke in the Wellington Hills in far eastern Douglas County around 3:04 p.m. It was reportedly a single tree. A 4:13 p.m. report of smoke in the Pine Nuts east of Johnson Lane couldn’t be confirmed.


I’m checking on a collision at Johnson Lane and Highway 395 that was reported on Pulse Point at 12:06 a.m. today. East Fork was on scene for two hours, according to the app.


There are a couple of things on the calendar for today, including Leslie Goddard’s portrayal of famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart 6:30 p.m. today at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. Entry, $15. Visit Dangberg.org for more information.

The rain this week has so far completely missed the official gauge at Minden. Today is likely the best chance to change that, according to the forecast. We’ll see. There’s a chance weather will turn up around 11 a.m. and increase at 2 p.m. The high today is forecast to hit 96 degrees with the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
