Artists of Carson Valley’s first gallery are celebrating 45 years 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Located at 1512 Main St., No. 4, the celebration will feature new art, door prizes, a raffle and class sign-ups in addition to being able to meet the artists.
The East Fork Gallery opened July 21, 1979, in the old Harris Building where the Historian Inn now stands in Gardnerville.
The first members of the cooperative were Luetta Bergivin, Marjory Cassina, Leone Cloepfil, Virginia Harsh, Nancy Jackson, Elizabeth Johnson, Lois Jones, Lynn Kelly, Geraldine Lawrence, James Lawrence, Walter Long, Margaret Martin and Elfriede Short, according to an R-C Story published July 19, 1979.
Cassina was the gallery’s first featured artist.
It survived for almost 16 years until a Jan. 23, 1995, fire.
It reopened in August 1995 in the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center before moving in 2000 to what was then The Record-Courier Center.
The gallery has been in its current location in the Haas Center since spring 2021.
