Genoa, Nev. — The 256-square-mile acre Park fire is generating a bunch of smoke as it burns north of Chico. Airnow.gov shows the smoke travelling northeast for now, well north of us. Air quality readings in Carson Valley are in the low to mid-good range this morning.
I drove Highway 395 through Gardnerville twice on Thursday. The paving is coming along and there wasn’t much activity in the cone zone in the afternoon. Traffic was backed up significantly going both ways, though.
Pine Nut Creek had a little water flowing in it still on Thursday morning after 2.2 inches of rain fell at the top of the watershed. I drove around Fish Springs and back Out R Way, but I didn’t see much more than a bit of mud besides the road.

I heard that the rain gauge I keep saying is at the Fish Springs Fire House hasn’t been there for 15 years. The gauge is about a mile southeast and 140 feet higher than the firehouse. Fish Springs volunteers are holding their annual Spaghetti Feed on Sept. 14.
If the forecast holds, we’re looking at sunny skies and a high temperature of 92 degrees today. The southwest wind is predicted to be 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph this afternoon.
