Genoa, Nev. — A 20-year-old man drowned while swimming off Whale Beach in the Carson City portion of Lake Tahoe around 5 p.m. Sunday, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. According to a release I received last night, the man’s identity is expected to be released today.


I still haven’t seen an official update on the incident at Sand Harbor on July 22. Douglas Marine 7 reported that someone was injured in a propellor strike around 2 p.m. Sunday. An unoccupied boat moored in Marla Bay sank on Saturday afternoon.


Genoa Historic District commissioners meet 4:30 p.m. today in the town meeting room to discuss the appropriateness of new signs for the new Flutter & Buzz Café and the O’Brien Company.


It was the unapproved bright blue paint job on that building that raised the profile of the Historic District Commission and resulted in a new ordinance being approved last year. The building was repainted last month after receiving the proper approvals.


The Record-Courier last published health inspections five days before the St. Patrick’s Day 2020 coronavirus lockdown. Since then it’s come up every so often. I don’t believe we’ll have room in print for them anytime soon, but here’s the link so you can look for yourself.


The Carson Valley Inn is hosting its annual Sporting Clays shooting event. The shooters will be making their way to Walker River Resort this morning for a days shooting. The big awards dinner is Tuesday.


Smoke from the Park Fire appears to be drifting south and is starting to affect the air quality in Western Nevada. Most of the indicators are still in the good range, but don’t be surprised if the forecast west wind doesn’t blow more smoke into Carson Valley.


Temperatures are forecast to warm up to 87 degrees today after a cool Sunday. The wind is predicted to pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph this afternoon.
