From the Giving Tree to the Mounted Posse to the hands of the Carson Valley Wrestling team, three groups came together to support Douglas County youth.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse donated $1,000 of its donation to the Carson Valley Wrestling team Friday, which they received from the Northern Nevada Giving Tree.

The Posse was the recipient of the donation during the Northern Nevada’s Giving Tree’s quarterly event on July 18, which the Posse turned around and donated to the wrestling club.

“The wrestling team touched our hearts with their presentation so we want to share the donation our posse received by giving the wrestling team a donation too,” said  Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse President Maura Parga.

The Carson Valley Wildcats Wrestling Club is a nonprofit year-round youth wrestling organization in Gardnerville for ages 5-18. The club helps students develop athletic skills, discipline, personal responsibility, mental toughness, physical fitness, nutrition, friendships, and fun.

Carson Valley Wildcats Wrestling Club Coach Jake Fair said the donation from the Posse will be used for wrestling camp, and other expenses such as traveling for competitions.

“We are very grateful to the Posse for the donation and we are looking forward to continuing to provide these experiences for the kids,” said Fair.

The club welcomes athletes from 5-18 years old and membership is $50 per month. Visit Carson Valley Wildcats on Facebook for more information.

As an organization that supports Douglas youth with scholarships and trade school, the Mounted Posse was moved by the Carson Valley Wildcats club in their efforts to provide a place for youth to gain experience and have fun.

The posse consists of volunteers active in supporting the community.

Aside from supporting the youth, the posse supports the needs of veterans and honors them with Comstock Quilters “Quilt of Honor” presentations, provides a mounted color guard for veteran and law enforcement events and memorials, and visits senior citizen living facilities and events. They also assist in rescues such as fires and floods.

“We bring some love and support to those that cannot get out and about town,” said Parga.  “We are a group of 28 riding and nonriding members who love Douglas County.”

The Northern Nevada Giving Tree is a nonprofit that raises money and support for other 501 C3 nonprofits.

The organization meets quarterly and each attendee brings $100 and the name of their favorite Douglas County non-profit, which is voted on and the winner receives the money raised during the event.

Since its inception in 2017 by Ginger Easley and Toni Van Winkle, the Northern Nevada Giving Tree has donated $178,550 to Carson Valley organizations including the Posse, DAWG, Suicide Prevention Network, The Carson Valley Food Closet, ME for Incredible Youth, Austin’s House, The Carson Valley Arts Council, and more. The organization meets quarterly. For more information visit Northern Nevada Giving Tree on Facebook.
