An investigation that could cost the district up to $30,000 was brought before the board during the Douglas County School Board meeting on May 21.
A complaint was filed against Board President David Burns and trustee Susan Jansen by former executive director of human resources Adam Dedmon.
Douglas County School District panel counsel Rebecca Bruch, brought before the board a contract outlining the process of the investigation, which would be overseen by Molly Rezac of Ogletree Deakins.
Brew said it was a complaint with a lot of different allegations.
The contract is available on the DCSD website, but no further information about the complaint was available. The Record-Courier reached out to Dedmon about the complaint on May 29, who was unavailable for comment.
During the May 21 meeting trustee Yvonne Wagstaff made a motion to approve the contract and move forward with the investigation, which was second by trustee Carey Kangas.
Burns and Jansen read a disclosure stating that they would abstain from voting.
“Board members before we vote, I need to disclose that this investigation involves allegations against me (and) because of a potential appearance of conflict, I will be abstaining from the vote,” read the disclosure.
The motion carried 4 to 1 with Gilkerson opposed.
“I will not vote (in favor) for it because it is another instance where it is going to cost the district more money,” she said.
Dedmon resigned as executive director of human resources in February after being appointed to the role during the Sept. 12, 2023 board meeting filling the position left by Joe Girdner who resigned July 29.
Since Dedmon left, interim superintendent Jeannie Dwyer has assumed the role of executive director of human resources. According to the school district website, the position has yet to be filled.
