The Carson Valley Days Parade might move faster down Highway 395 on Saturday than traffic backed up by construction over the next few days.

On Monday, lunch hour traffic was backed up from Gilman almost to Minden at times as construction crews finish up work prior to paving scheduled to start June 10.

“Community members will see intermittent lane reductions on U.S. 395 through this week as preliminary construction wraps up,” State Transportation Spokeswoman Meg Ragonese said on Monday.

Highway 395 from Buckeye Road to Waterloo Lane will be closed around 8-11 a.m. Saturday for the parade. This year’s theme is Music in the Carson Valley.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office asked that residents plan ahead if they need to travel across town ahead of the parade.

“There will be an alternate route clearly marked for motor vehicles passing through south and northbound Highway 395,” according to the Sheriff’s Office. “All surface streets between Buckeye Road and Waterloo Lane will have closed access to Highway 395. No vehicles will be allowed to park along the parade route.”

Conducted by the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club, the four-day Carson Valley Days celebration opens 4 p.m. Thursday with a carnival in Lampe Park.

With an election underway, candidate entries are anticipated to swell the ranks of entries in the annual parade.

Today is the last day to obtain discount carnival tickets, which are $30 at Raley’s, Nevada State Bank in Minden and at Accolade’s Trophies. Tickets aren’t good until the carnival opens at 3 p.m. Friday.

Carson Valley Days buttons are on sale for $2 at a variety of locations, including those listed for discount carnival tickets.

A fundraiser for Carson Valley Lions Club causes, buttons will also be on sale along the parade route on Saturday.

Performances at Lampe Park on Friday include Craig & the Crowdaddy’s, the Lost Reverends and Moxy Ruckus Dance Party.

Sunday performances include Miki Rae & the Hooligans, Quitter, Deception and Jenes & the Juice. Visit www.carsonvalley2030.org for more information.
